Bestselling author Sarah Young wrote Jesus Calling, with Scripture References: Enjoying Peace in His Presence (a 365-Day Devotional) after a personal and moving experience with God that changed her life. The idea was birthed during a season when Young lived in a Christian community in a tiny Alpine village in France. One day, overwhelmed by the beauty she saw from the top of a mountain near the little French village, she was overcome with God's presence and began speaking to him in a renewed, personal way, as one who had been converted. She writes, "At that moment, I knew I belonged to him. . . . [It was] far more than the intellectual answers for which I'd been searching. This was a relationship with the Creator of the universe."
Years later, Young wondered if she could actually receive messages from God like others whose experiences she read about—an intimate two-way communication rather than the one-way monologue through journaling that she had practiced for so long. As her journaling changed from monologue to dialogue, she began experiencing a new, closer relationship with her Savior.
Jesus Calling is the fruit of Young's time dialoguing with Jesus in her journals. Throughout the devotional, she shares the words and Scriptures Jesus lovingly laid on her heart over many years—words of reassurance, comfort, and hope that made her increasingly aware of God's presence and opened the floodgates for experiencing his peace.
This unique devotional is written as if Jesus himself is speaking tenderly to the reader. It features an entry for every day of the year that reads like a dialogue with the Savior that is filled with Scripture and accompanied by additional passages for reflection and meditation.
Through the 365 devotions in Jesus Calling, Young invites readers to experience a new and more profound way of communicating with Jesus, undergirded in the Word of God. Readers will explore themes of peace, thankfulness, and trust—themes prevalent throughout the Bible and essential to understanding and experiencing the presence and peace of the Savior.
