Loving, Biblical Answers on Homosexuality

In the next year at least one of these things will happen in your life:
• A family member will come out of the closet and expect you to be okay with it.
• Your elementary-age child's curriculum will discuss LGBT families.
• Your company will talk about building a tolerant workplace for LGBT co-workers.
• Your college-age child will tell you your view on homosexuality is bigoted.

Are you ready?

In their role as pastors, Adam Barr and Ron Citlau have seen how this issue can tear apart families, friendships, and even churches. In this book they combine biblical answers with practical, real-world advice on how to think about and discuss this issue with those you care about. They also tell the story of Ron's personal journey from same-sex attraction and sexual brokenness to healing.

Truth does not preclude kindness--and a good dose of humility is necessary to love our neighbors. With sensitivity and winsomeness, this book will offer an honest but inviting message to readers: We are all in need of the healing that can only come from the truth of the gospel.

"I can't imagine any Christian not being helped by this book. . . . If you are looking for a resource that will help you think about the issue of homosexuality with unflinching truth and with sincere grace, this is a great place to start."--from the Foreword by Kevin DeYoung

"These pastors/authors equip us to love persons with same-sex attraction well. Born of life in the real world, their efforts are profound yet conveyed with a light touch that makes a tough subject an enjoyable read."--Andrew Comiskey, founder/executive director, Desert Stream/Living Waters Ministries

"Compassion Without Compromise seeks to be candid help on a difficult topic: the complex variations of modern sexual brokenness. You may cheer one page and jeer another. But, having heard the mind of two pastors who wrestle honestly with sexual issues every day, at least you will find help to make up your own mind."--Dr. Todd Hunter, Anglican bishop, pastor of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, and author of Our Favorite Sins

"Both the church and culture are being ripped apart by the homosexuality issue. Adam and Ron have given us a most important discussion of the issue that is biblical, personal, and practical. I know of no other work that encompasses all three approaches."--Charles Simpson, author, Bible teacher, motivational speaker, and pastor

Top Highlights

“We believe it is part of the Bible, but we wonder how it continues to apply to us. After all, Jesus brought us salvation by grace, through faith alone. Gentiles don’t have to walk through the doorway of Judaism to become disciples of Jesus (see Acts 15).” (source)

“It is hard to walk with the reality of the same-sex struggle. But that is exactly the point. Each person who seeks to follow Jesus, if they actually try to do it, will find it quite hard. The demands of the gospel are harsh: Anyone who would follow him must die to self—that is, to their self-desire, their self-will. So the notion that the gospel doesn’t work for those who struggle with same-sex desire is simply not true. There are countless examples of men and women who have managed their brokenness and had great victory, even in the midst of great struggle and pain. Truth be told, it doesn’t work if you’re not willing to take the medicine. The medicine is strong. The cure is costly. But make no mistake: What Christ did on the cross works for every man and woman—no matter the ailment.” (source)

“We are all writing a story with our lives, so when we come to the text of Scripture, we want to understand, ‘What kind of story will my life become if I allow this book to guide me?’ When Scripture’s message confronts and challenges us, when it speaks an uncomfortable truth, part of us is facing a hard choice: Am I willing to let the Bible rewrite my story, or will I attempt to rewrite the Bible?” (source)

“Throughout Scripture, sin is portrayed as an effort to live as if God doesn’t matter. In fact, it is portrayed as an effort to be like little gods. Sin, biblically speaking, is turning one’s back on God, the God who wants us to live in a face-to-face relationship with him.” (source)
