In 1879, the 29th Convention of the General Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church met to recommit a new liturgy for the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Liturgy of the Evangelical Lutheran Church is the product of that convention, presenting an updated order of public worship, regulations for the baptism of children and adults, and the rites for confirmation, confession and absolution, and celebration of the Lord’s Supper. It also contains extensive prayers and collects for important days of the liturgical calendar, especially holidays and festival days.
